Smart Space Technology toward Sustainable Science

To realize a sustainable society it is necessary to conserve energy and distribute risk, such as by having distributed offices. To achieve this, a smart space that can understand and predict the state and condition of the people in it, and provide various kinds of support, is needed.

This project, is attempting to establish base technology to understand the state and conditions of people, without interfering with their activities. Various sensors are used to build a sensing room that can take long term measurements, and the large amount of data produced is used to develop estimation and prediction technologies.

It is a five-year project that received special support funding from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, and many of the laboratories helped plan it and are conducting research.

For details regarding this project, see the Smart Space Technology toward Sustainable Science project page (in Japanese).

Symbio-Information Technology Project

The purpose of this research project is to realize a ubiquitous information environment in the true meaning of the word, implementing information environments that are compatible with people, intuitive user interfaces that do hamper thought, and developing special hardware that adapts to users. These achievements will bring out peoples' maximum cognitive abilities. Over five years starting in FY2006 the many labs in this division have worked on planning and conducted research for this project.

For details regarding this project, see the Symbio-Information Technology project page (in Japanese).
